Well, I've been watching one of these for a few weeks, It is about 6 inches long and appears healthy.
I've got a few questions about the fish before I decide whether I'll bring it home.
What size have other people had theirs reach? I've seen sizes from 11 inches to 16 inches quoted.
I know they are willing to eat frozen foods and such, are they known for eating tankmates, if yes, what size fish would it most likely leave alone?
What size tank would everyone recommend? I was thinking of putting him in a 55 with sand substrate, and mostly larger plecos as tankmates, along with Buenos Aires Tetras, and 2 banjo cats. The tank is a growout tank for my baby royal pleco, who so far is only 4 inches long. As he gets bigger the tankmates will shift, probably up to a 90 gallon. Other choice is directly in the 90 with Large Tiger Barbs, Clown Loaches, and a RTS.
How aggressive are they? In the store it rarely comes out and never seems to bother anything, though right now it is being housed with 3 inch Bala Sharks.
Thanks for any info anyone can give me.
