Box filter Question

I was just given a box filter, you know, a little box that is hooked up to an air pump. It was used on a 5 gallon tank. My question - would this be enough filteration to put on a 10 gallon with only two bettas??? Just wondering because this would free up one of my larger filters to be used on another tank.
 
Just to add - its not the kind that sits in the corner. It has suction cups so I could put it dead center in the tank so both sides got equal filtration.

it depends on how powerful the pump is. although, for a 10gal... most of the smallest size pumps would be sufficient. i'd say it'd be alright. i've used box filters for many many years. they really work well except ppl might argue that it's more troublesome to clean it out every now and then.
try it. go for it.
 
With just 2 fish and regular maintenance, that will be fine. I've kept bettas in 5 gallon tanks with nothing but plants for filtration and a small powerhead for gentle current.
 
It will work great. I use sponge fitlers (box filters without the box) on three of my four tanks and have fish spawning regularly or fry growing quickly in all of them. I never have to worry about power filters restarting after outages or fry getting pureed by impelers. Sometimes the best tech is low tech.
 
Sounds good then!! All that this means is that I will have one of my two new tanks up and running ahead of schedual (kinda on a budget). :D
