I curenty have a tank that is badling brown algae...but that isnt my question I have been thinking about getting another tank and well i was wondering if there was any way to prevent it? I know it comes from the diatoms(SP) in my water...is there something that takes them out?
Thanks

I had brown algae i used prime and it removed the nitrates from my water with in 3-5 days all the algae went away and cleared from my plants and looks great now

It goes away on it's own. kind of a new tank thing. Keep your water healthy, and rinse it off and it will soon be gone.

if it comes back in your tank after it's been up you probably need a Hi-S RO DI filter on your water that you put into the tank. It always seems to happen in new tanks for a short time anyway though with or without the Hi-S RO DI. (Hi S being High Silicates)

I had a wicked case of brown algae in a 10G tank I had on a desk. I bought 2 cheap common plecs ($1/ea) at the local LFS and over a period of about 3 days they took out most of it.
That, or you can try to choke it out.

Common Plecos can grow to over 6" or something. (Its late for me) and need a tank of at least 55g.

The best way to get rid of drown alage is time. Wait till your tank is 6 months old. By this time you should not have a problem.
