I went to the LFS today to get some more cory cats to go in my 40 gallon...and what did I buy? :D A 75 Gallon tank/stand/hood, a Pengium 600 filter, a heater, a gorgeous and HUGE piece of driftwood and 100# of natural gravel (reminds me of small river pebbles, matches the 40 gallon)
I am so excited. I don't have time today to put it together and add water so I will go pick it up in the morning.
My wish list for this 75 gallon tank is larger fish. I think 2 pretty angels, 3 clown loaches, maybe a sunset gourami, a yo-yo loach, a gold nugget pleco, and a bristle nose. Does this sound about right for the tank size? Could more be added or would that be overstocked?? I know it will take forever for it to cycle (going with bio-spira and a fishless cycle ;) ) I just want to have the "want list" for it and plan it out so that the fish grow into the tank and have a forever home in it. I am not interested in fish that will outgrow the 75 and need a larger tank.

Also....does my 40 gallon sound overstocked?? I worry about that.

3 rasbora's
1 female beta
4 albino cory
2 leopard cory (I will add two more when the LFS get more in)
I also would like to add a bristle nose pleco to this tank as well
Does it sound overstocked now?? I want my fishies to be comfortable. Nitrites are 0, ammonia 0, ph 7.2, Nitrates 5.

I think your stocking of the 40g sounds fine, I would say with the bristlenose and the corys you are about at the limit, but you might be able to get away with a few more neons or rummys.

As for the other tank, I think angels and gouramis might pick on each other. I'm sure someone will give you more info. on that. The clown loaches, although they grow really slowly, would eventually need a bigger tank than a 75g, so you might want to pass on them unless you know there is another larger tank in your future ;) ! Also, I'm not positive, but double check on the yo-yos, alot of loaches like to kept in groups and prefer softer bottoms b/c they dig. I know alot of people will say they keep them in gravel bottom tanks, but I would not want to bury myself in gravel ;) !!

Welcome to the club, MTS (multiple tank syndrome :laugh: ) doesn't usually take too long to catch once you start with a tank...
 
Thank you Holly for the info. I guess I need to do a lot more research. I know for certain I want some Angels. I got plenty of time to decide, it will take a good month or more before the fishless cycle is done and give me plenty of time to research and decide. Like I said, I don't want to worry about something outgrowing the tank and I want what I put in there to be in the appropriate environment so it has a happy fishy life. I guess I will pass on the loaches. For some reason I thought I read that the clown loaches only get up to 6 inches??
So...here is a question-What would you (or anyone else) put in a 75 gallon tank with some angels?

It will be fake. I'm not brave enough to venture into the world of live aquatic plants. All my houseplants have suffered enough :eek: !! LOL. I think eventually I will try some live, but not for a long time.
Hmmm...the pet store did have some black neons...very cool.

Hey mykids... pretty expensive fish you bought huh?! I'm always doing things like that. Last week I went to a shop for hoover bags and came back with a fridge freezer. Doh!

On stocking - I've got similar. When I spoke to people on these boards they were pretty OK with loaches in the 75g - just not too many - and one day I may have to go even bigger tank wise (so that'll be when I have enough money to have a bigger house to put it in then!!).

I've got:
2x angels
dwarf gourami (he's occasionally chased by the angels - but nothing too bad)
pair of kribs
3 clown loaches
red tailed black shark

And it seems OK. Certainly nothing seems too stressed. And I hope I didn't create a bad situation for them.
 
yup....a little costly! LOL. I was so worried what my husband would say about another bigger tank! LOL. I do have him convinced they are good for his bloodpressure, yet worried the checkbook would raise that blood pressure! LOL. He was absolutely fine with it and even helped me move furniture around to make room for it. Whew! The kids are thrilled though and I told them the decorations in this one is for ME to decide!
I have been researching different breeds. The guy at the LFS said that perhaps I should consider a parrot fish or two. What do you all think of them?? I have to drop my daughter off at school then I'm going to go get it. I'm still so darned excited!!!LOL
