I got some warts on my foot from the pool. I guess I had a cut on my toe, and the virus got in. And now its spreading. What can I do? Anyone else have this kinda problem?

Havent had one of those since I was like 10. I remember they gave me all this crap to put on it, and told me to file it down everyday or something.
I tried their methods for like a week and it didnt change much. Finally got sick of it, took out a knife, and dug the thing out of my skin. Sounds gross and painful, but it wasent too bad.

:o Ewwww. That does sound sick. I got this acid stuff that I am going to start using. I think it takes more than a week, because some blood whatever's are there. Only time will tell.

Somebody, Dr. Scholl's, I think has some new stuff that is supposed to freeze them off instantly like at the drs. office. Only thing about warts though is that since it is a virus, they can come back. There's also band-aids and liquid you can use to remove them but I think that takes like three months.

Yea, Iv heard of that. Like liquid nitrogen. I'm answering my self :thud:
I had...what's it called? Farmer's wart? Gardner's wart? ...something like that, several years ago. They have seeds that embbed in the skin. You have to have them removed. They hurt. The time I had it, it was on my foot. I could barely walk before seeing the doctor, it hurt. Thing is, those are contageous as well.
I saw a foot specialist and he removed them for me. Acid and freezing. I think it was acid. It burned like crazy!
Poor kid.

hey Lila, plantars wart. They are only on your feet and yes my dad had one and he said it hurt. The wart, I never asked about the removal, ouch. Kas, the salicylic acid is the stuff that takes a while to work, I think.

1st time, and it went well. The 1 main wart is really soft and I think will be gone in a week or so. The others will take longer for sure.

Ewww. I've had one once...caught it at a pool too. Now I don't walk around a pool deck or in the locker room without sandals. I'd suggest seeing a doctor, s/he can give you a recommendation for an effective treatment. I used Duoplant (it's over the counter) and it worked really well.

Warts are caused by a virus. My kids both had them. Went to the dermatologist and had them taken off, and for the most part grew back, at least the ones on their hands did.
The first my youngest daughter had was a plantar wart when she was 4, and we went to the podiatrist to get rid of that.
Now the ones around here direct you to the Duoplant stuff, which works if you are compliant with using it. I would be interested in seeing how the freeze stuff they are advertizing works
My youngest had several on her feet when she went away to college. (they came back) She'd been using Duoplant and seeing the podiatrist. She stopped treating them..lack of motivation. Interestingly enough once she went to college they disappeared. I figure diet change maybe? Don't know. I think it took a month..and all of them were gone, just like that.

They can be tough to treat. I believe the liquid nitrogen isn't as effective for plantar warts because they are so deep rooted. The Duoplant stuff, if you use it as directed essetially slowly kills the tissue in and around the wart...not pleasant (but not painful)...it can work really well.

It is a virus as we've all said so I figure that they go away but the virus stays in your body all the time. I guess some people get them more than others. I had two on the side of my knee when I was younger and I got rid of them and I've never had any since. So, nursie, I don't know why sometimes it works that way.

I suggest you do not start your own surgery - here's one reason..
"A plantar wart is similar in structure to an iceberg—the part on the surface of the skin is a small part of the entire anomaly. Often, the portion of the wart under the skin is at least twice as big as the part you can see."
Here's some suggestions on prevention...
" Prevention
According to the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA), the following may help to prevent plantar warts:
* Avoid walking barefoot whenever possible.
* Change shoes and socks daily.
* Keep feet clean and dry.
* Check children's feet periodically.
* Avoid direct contact with warts on other persons or on other parts of the body.
* Do not ignore growths on, or changes in, your skin.
* Visit a podiatrist as part of your annual health checkup."
Here's the link - please read it.. Take care of 'it'..

One sure fire way to get rid of it is as follows...
-One wart on toe
-One piece of broken transition strip (that metal strip that goes in your doorway)
-Run for the phone, making sure to get your wart caught on the jagged metal edge...
After I picked myself off the floor, I noticed that my wart had been totally ripped out on the transition strip...TOTALLY gros, but highly effective...Never had one since...

Thats what I thought too http://www.piranha-fury.com/pfury/style_emoticons/default/locked.gif
I've had a few of those way back...used compound W...and when it got to the point where it was soft...I pulled them out....roots and all. It leaves a bit of a hole where it was, which heals...but they never came back.

I had a plantar's wart when I was a kid. It was on the ball of my foot and HUGE. Hurt like crazy too. It took THREE trips to the doc to remove it. That's three separate applications of liquid nitrogen. The first time I felt nothing, the second I felt a little burning, and by the third application it just flat out hurt becaseu there was more healthy tissue than wart there.
Don't mess with it yourself. Its easy enough for a doctor to take care of.

I had a few when I was in high school...I had a plantar's wart as well. No clue where it came from; never had a wart before. It was PAINFUL as mentioned, and I had to go to the doctors to have like 5 liquid nitrogen treatments. They weren't cutting it so I also used the acidy- liquid stuff. A pair of tweezers, a high tolerance for pain, and you can rip the little rooty thing out pretty well:D

I get them on my hands occasionally. What always cures them is a week long dive trip. Soaking in saltwater for 3-4 dives a day gets rid of them every time. Yes, it's painful, but effective :D
