My cacs laid eggs again and this time Im going to be ready! I plan on keeping them with the parents for about a week or so after they hatch and then move them to a 36g growout tank. I have to order a heater and a filter... right now there is an UGF but I dont want to keep gravel in the tank so I need a different filter. I was looking into something like this sponge filter (http://www.bigalsonline.com/catalog/product.xml?product_id=22219&category_id=1725&pcid1=2885) but do not know how it works since its so big. I have used small sponge filters before with a little pump but do not know how these work. Also I have brime shrimp eggs so I know what to do with those. Thank you

Hey Kyle
Congrats! That filter is perfect. You just connnect an airline to it at the base of the tube. I would keep fry with the parents for a little longer (maybe three weeks) but that's up to you. When they start to spread out and mom looks like she's losing control is a good time to move them. This will give you a chance to cycle the filter in one of your existing tanks. If you need a mature filter sooner let me know, and I can lend you one.
PS I'm also sitting on a new batch of eggs. they should be hatching as I type this.

Ha! I wish they were panduro's. The conditioned sponge I have fits the filters that suction on the side of the tank (sold at AA for around 9.00 I think). I have two of them in my 29 growout and have no complaints. I can either lend you the whole assembly or just trade you a conditioned sponge for new sponge. Just PM me.

I put an order in for one of those big sponge filters and a pump and check valve and a 200w stealth visa therm heater. Finally Im going to have a grow out tank. Mooman... I think it would be cool if we traded fry so that we could breed again and not worry about inbreeding. Just a thought for later

I still have not seen the cac fry but the mom still protecting that lil cave she made. I hope my hatchery works out... I bought some frozen daphnia so I can feed them that too.
