This is a stupid question, but the two places I shop don't carry whisper filters. What type of media do they use? Is is just a cartridge or is there some type of permanent media for biofiltration?

They have a permanent sponge as well as a bag (made from floss I think) that you can fill with carbon.
the new whispers have the bio sponge their advanced ones, the other ones just have the bag but the frame for the bag is supposed to harbor the bio bacteria. go to walmart if you wanna see one, they sell whispers and just about everyone shops there.
