I've been after this bristle worm for MONTHS! I have tried every trick in the book to catch him, nothing was working, including all the tricks I had used to catch other worms in the past. I had recently upgraded aquarium sizes and during the switch I had changed substate to Marshall Islands sand. To help seed the new tank/sand I had filled a number of nylon sacks with the old substrate and placed them in the back of the tank. Tonight I decided it was probably safe to remove the first sack from the tank... Upon lifting it I saw the beast I had been chasing for months! I was really surprised to see it out of the rocks because the lights were on and I had been cleaning and fiddling with the tank. I wasn't at all prepared to go after it, so out of supposed "quick thinking" I grabbed a spatula from the kitchen and was able to lift it out of the tank. This was the largest worm that I have had in my tank. Fully stretched out it is 10 inches long. It was able to shrink back to 2.5 inches.
I've attached a couple of pictures for those of you unfamiliar with these creatures.
