i went in to petco about a week ago, and they had all their lights out on the tanks, they claimed that they just got a shipment and had some problems with ich and they think maybe with katrina, that the shipments had problems, i thought great atleast they arent selling them...give petco a pat on the back! well, today i stroll into pet co and half of their lights are out and half of them on, signifying that the lights on tanks are for sale, as i look at the tanks the lights on tanks are littered with ich, i told three people that were standing there waiting on fish not to buy, before the lady employed there walked up, and gave me a dirty look,i then told her that she had ich all throughout the system.they all run intertwining.she then turned out one more row of tanks but left the rest on! selling those fish was wrong on petcos part, esp. with their return policy and how jerky they can be asking for water samples, ......i know lady i know ..your fish died but just because we sold you an infected fish doesnt mean that its our fault that your whole tank is wiped out ..your ph is up!....i can just see it happening! :argue:

i was at petco today too. this was the second time in a row that i've seen several tanks with several dead fish in them. it can't possibly be that difficult for the employees to at least remove them. there was also a dead betta in a cup. really gross

i dont like petco. every fish i buy from there i end up taking back because its always got some kind of disease. usually ich.

and the employees give me attitude so i go to the nearest petsmart where the guy knows what hes talking about.

no, Petco's not the greatest. the only reason that I go there occasionally is because there's only three pet stores (including it) within 65 miles of me. So I go to all of them depending on what I'm looking for.

Did you actually see ich in all the tanks? A lot of times the places that run all the tanks off of central filtering use heavy UV sterilization on the water as it goes between tanks.

there was ich in atleast 12 of their tanks and three with body fungus...and that was the ones with the lights on ..i didnt watch :look: the ones with the lights off real close but i am assuming its all through out their system!

I'm just wondering why y'all bother with mega marts that sell fish in the first place..if ya wanna toss money away..toss it to me and I'll go to my LFS and have a cup of coffee with the owner and chat about fish and buy some healthy stuff from him

Well, the quite unfortunate consequence of all the Petco's and Petsmarts that have been put up in almost every city is...the nice local, smaller scale LFS have been run out of business and just can't compete with them. They (the Petsmarts, Petcos etc) have become the "walmarts" of the pet business. I ALWAYS try to shop at the two local pet stores we have left...but unfortunately they will tell you it is hard to compete with the huge national chains. The simple fact of the matter is, sometimes and quite unfortunately...they are the ONLY choice for people in some areas.

Thats my situation, only stores near me are a PetCo and a PetsMart, and I don't even think there are any smaller retailers at all. There used to be a small Pet Supermarket, but that went out of business as well.
