Quick question: I know nothing about fluorite...I have a 5 gallon bucket that is almost full of the stuff, it came with a used tank I bought, but I don't have real plants, nor do I need any gravel. Would I be able to get anything out of selling it? If so, what would be a reasonable amount to ask?

You could try to sell it, but I doubt anyone would buy it...Why dont you plant a tank??? You have the most expensive "ingredient" (aside of plants) already...If you do decide to plant, you will wonder why you ever had plastic before...Planted tanks add a whole new dimension to the hobby and are really beautiful when they are flourishing...

Well if you truly dont want it, I think a bag of the stuff (Weight?) goes for 25 bucks, and it's pretty expensive for substrate. If i needed some I would buy it from you wor like 10 bucks or something.

If I was near you I'd buy it in a min!! Check out the price on www.bigalsonline.com , that's where I bought mine, then sell accordingly. Big Al's was $10.00/bag cheaper than the pet shop here.

I doubt used flourite will go for very much (compared to new). I believe it loses a portion of it's effectiveness over time. Won't hurt to try selling it though, you should be able to get something for a bucketful.

if you want to learn about flourite you can go to the seachem website, it has a pretty good description there.

Why not just use it? Or get a little 5-20g and plant it with some low light stuff. Other than that, just store it in a few Zip Locks.

Can anyone else confirm that the "good stuff" in flourite gets used up?

From what I've heard it takes a really long time (think decades) for the nutrients to become depleted in Flourite.

Yes it will, but that would probably take 30 years.
