I already have a 55 gallon FW Oscar tank, but they will be moving to 110 or 120 gallon tank soon so I was thinking about setting up a the 55 or moving upto a 75 gallon SW tank with one or two fish and some live rock.. Hopefully nothing more. I did a little searching and found that some Should I follow everyone elses recommendations are for with coral, invertebre(sp?), anemones, etc and I'm not sure if I need the same stuff.

My question, do I still need the protein skimmer?, do I need to go to a canister filter?(currently have a bio-wheel on the FW tank), etc. If anyone could give me reccomendations on what I'd need I'd appreciate it. Besides titanium heater, salinity testing stuff, etc.

you need a protien skimmer for any marine tank the only filteration need is a sponge and maybe some carbon but if you dont want to buy or make a sump. buy a 110 gal power filter and take ever thing out but the sponge get a divider and make a section in the filter for some bio balls and another for the heater if it fits this should cut down on the things in your tank. and make sure your tank has alot of current.

Well, to be honest...skimmer are NOT required but they ARE recomended. I have a 55g FOWLR at the moment and I do run a skimmer and you wouldn't believe some of the nasty crap it pulls out of the water. In my opinion I wouldn't run any type of saltwater tank without a good skimmer.
