I'm thinking about purchasing a 10 gal hex from Work....i work at a LFS and get a decent discount. Its an All Glass Hex w/ hood and stand for about $60 and I have an extra Filter and Heater can be picked up pretty decently priced, but what I'm thinking about is a setup....any ideas???....I was kindly thinking about Dwarf Puffers, but they are hard to find around here  . But any other ideas and setups would be greatly appreciated. :D

Anything???
Well, being that it's going to be a tall narrow setup..I wouldn't get anything like danios which need space to zip around. Hhhmmm.....some fish on the slower moving end, which will use all zones........lol....hate to say it, but what about a betta...and some cories...? :idea2:
I suppose some gouramis might do as well....some of the smaller variety...honeys or dwarf neons/powder blues...with a trio of small cories....dwarfs or pandas...

Hey VTwin,
I recently set-up an old 10 hex in my apartment out at school. I've got three guppies (1 M, 2 F), a balloon molly (my girlfriend "had" to have it), and a South American bumblebee catfish. In a few months, I'm most likely going to have to put the catfish in a 20 gallon or so, as they get up to about 4".
Other options I thought about:
~Dwarf, flame, or neon gourami and 3 cory cats
~3-5 cherry barbs
~Betta with a small loach species (Yo-Yo, etc.)
Good luck and enjoy the end result!
Cheers,
~Matt

I recommend besides some other excellent live bearers is
the Heterandria formosa, aka the least killie or dwarf live bearer. This guys are hard to come by, these are usually a special order from your pet shop but they are great fish.
The males reach about 1/4 of an inch long at full adult hood and the females are larger at an inch. They are very peaceful fish and thrive in tiny tanks. I own a small colony right now in my 5 gallon. I plan on getting more soon for an outdoor container. But they do well having plants like hornwort floating on the top of the tank and they eat crushed fish flakes.

But a planted tank would be perfect for them with an under gravel filter or a sponge filter. They do tend to have problems with larger filters.
But I also recommend Endlers if you can get them. They are great little fish, very pretty and hardy. They are a nice tiny live bearer that does well in setups like this. No worry about them out growing this tank.

Or you can try the Sparklng Gourami. Also another small fish, under 2 inches and with lots of character.

So there you go, three different and unique oddballs that would fit into this tank. :) all very pretty and plenty of character.

Endlers would be a cool thing (males only, perhaps).
Loaches just plain won't fit. Most get around 4-6" and should be in groups. My yoyo is 6". The footprint of that tank is very small. I would avoid any "true" bottom dwellers for this reason.
Dwarf frogs would work, if you got peaceful fish.
If you can find them and are good with keeping clean water, sparkling gouramis would be an awesome choice.
