 I got bored this weekend...
Check out the before and after...
I moved everything out of the tank including fishies and put them in a 29gal so I could work on this without making them stressed out. I removed about 40 lbs of crushed coral/river rock mixture from the tank. I replaced the coral/rock with aragonite. I went and bought 70 lbs of rock and 2 tubes of aquarium safe silicone and went to town.... and that's the results... It's still a little cloudy even after I washed the aragonite about a billion times.. :thud: Although the fishies are back in their home, im willing and open to any suggestions or comments :) :)

I also have a question to go along with this project..
Obviously since I took everything out of the tank all the bacteria is gone. I had two bio wheel filters on when it was already cycled which I transfered them both to the 29 while I was working on the 46 to keep the bacteria alive. Now, my question is... if I put the filters back in the big tank will this automatically re-cycle my tank or suggest I do something else. I really hope I dont get ammonia spike or anything..

I really like what you have done. It's amazing that it looks finished with no plants.
I have 2 Qs.
Did you use the Silicone to hold the rock formations together?
Did you get 70 lbs of rock at a quarry?

I whent to a quarry to set up my 1st oscar tank. That was so many years ago that I forget what kind of rock to look for. I think some of them have copper and other medals in them. I don't want to get anything harmful for the fish, if I am going to buy rock in bulk.

I think I got all my rocks for $12 but the was in the mid 80s.

Hi Cylon,
Yes, I did use silicone and I do suggest using silicone when building rock formations like that, it's so much easier and you don't have to worry about the rocks falling, ect. At first I thought I wouldn't have any luck finding aquarium safe silicone but I found it everywhere, thank heavens :D I think you can use any silicone as long as it is 100% silicone with no additives, correct me if im wrong. As far as the rock, I went to Patio Town ( Not sure if you're firmiliar with that, but it's basically a yard with a million kids of rock.) I told the nice man that I need rock that I can put into my aquarium that has fish in it and he told me the kinds of rock I could get. He said basically anything but sandstone because that will just fall apart. I got 70 lbs for about 18 dollars... roughly. I can't specifically remember the name of the rock that I got but I remember him specifically pointing out a bunch of rock that was called chilton. Now that you say theres rock that has copper and medal in it, im worried because the nice man didnt mention that to me. And btw the plants in the first tank lasted about 1 week before they were shred to pieces so plants was really out of the question this time around. ;)

Thanks for the quick reply it's helpful.
As far as the rock with the medals in it I might be remembering wrong. I'm almost 40 and I can't rmember the 80s to well anymore. lol, Maybe some one else here will no a bit more about the rocks.

Did you find the silicone at a hardware store?
