The blackouts I have done have taken care of the problem in my 55 Gallon and I havnt seen it come back since.

My 10 gallon however is a different story......I did a major water change last night and cleaning and am going for blackout number 3. Someone please give something else I can do to erradicate this crap. I know some other threads mentioned some meds I could use to kill it off...I was reluctant because of the negative effects of killing off the beneficial bacteria as well, but at this point I am willing to try it......can someone tell me the name of the med and how to use it? or any other info you may have in dealing with this stuff.

Some specs on my 10 gallon:

I have a 15watt Flora Glo and a 15watt Life Glo giving me 3watts per gallon

I am doing DIY CO2
dosing K,N and traces weekly
pretty heavliy planted

Don't do the meds thing! Algae can be conquered without it. You can use a light solution of bleach and water to wipe it out. Also, check the filter and clean your gravel. Algae can grow in there too. Clean everywhereyou can think of. Read some of the other solutions to your problem in some of the other posts in the Aquatic Plant Forum
