Sand!!

I have a 45 gal. tank ready to be set up. I have 45 lbs. of Live rock coming and only can afford 20lbs. of Live Sand.... Question is can I put some other type of sand as a base. I seen at Home Depot that they have an All Purpose Sand, will this work. thanks

Any fine grain sand will work.

I used silica-based sandblasting sand. It's about the consistency of sugar grains and was about $15 per 100 pounds. It's working out just fine.

If you can find yardrite sand then thats the same as the southdown sand we have here in the east.

Whats most important is sand grain size. You want a good mix of sand grains with the bulk of it beign in the sugar grain size range.
