hey, i have my pacu in a 29g tank... i know its small.. but o well.. DONT THINK I AM A BAD FISH OWNER FOR WHAT I AM SAYINF OR WHAT IM GONNA SAY... i had lots of reds, but i have been selling them and few died.. i have 2 left about 5-6'5''..... and the pacu is about 7''... i dont knot what to do with the pacu, bcuz hes so big and causing problems in my other tank... he suppose to be a herbivore but is turning into a carnivore. so i am putting him in with my reds this weekend.. i dont know what will happen, but i need to take the risk, bcuz i have heard lots of storie.. i will tell you what happens..
sorry this is long... please tell me what u think or any opinions on this whole situation i got going.. thanks

i've heard people who have done that, and the results were mixed. keep us posted
GOOD LUCK

Honestly get a bigger tank or the pacu will die, it is that simple. Or find a friend with a 1000g+ tank or pond and enjoy the fish that way.

ppl have mixed results cuz they mix them with HUGE tanks, that 45g is not gonna house that pacu long, and their will be fights among them all. I promise. I wouldn't do it cuz your reds will get very territorial, not after long either, either that or pacu comes in and owns them both. Either way, OWN3D

yeah i will... its like a 40% chance it lives... or something.. but i hope its alright...
and yeah i wish i could, but not many ppl can have or afford a 1000+ g tank.... and having a heated pond would be hard.. so this is my only option...
sublime1184
09-23-2005, 8:25 PM
you'd be better off giving the pacu away. thats a better option...and I don't even give it a 40% chance...the reds will eat it most likely
FreddytheFish
09-23-2005, 8:27 PM
didn't see that it was only 45 gallons... its gonna be cramped, to say the least
ofarevolution31
09-23-2005, 8:30 PM
yeah it prob is less then 40%... but there is no way in hell i can catch or get that 7''+ pacu in a net, bag or anything!!!! its wild and out of control... so what do i suppose to do... the reds will have fun and bond. :)
yeah it b cramp a lil... and for a short amount of time, until the reds decide what they wanna do... their home.

I'm still dying to know why you got banned from p-fury.....but anyway, what if the pacu hurts ur RBs bad?....I know they will win but its not worth the risk. If I can catch two RBs in a 10g bare tank and not get hurt, you can catch your pacu with a bucket and a big azz net...
ofarevolution31
09-23-2005, 8:43 PM
hha i really dont know why i really go banned... so thats dumb...
and If I can catch two RBs in a 10g bare tank and not get hurt whats that mean?? u said that...
and how would the pacu hurt my reds??? how??? and if it does, i will jus take it out.. the reds should whoop on its asss..... sad... but no other choices...
we left our big fishing nets for salmon in out boat at our cabin, so i dont have a big enough net!!!! lol
sublime1184
09-23-2005, 8:45 PM
don't you have to catch it to put it with the reds
ofarevolution31
09-23-2005, 8:47 PM
hahha ****... i never thought about that... ****.. how am i gonna get it in with my reds!!!
i am gonna have to use my 5'' net and my 3'' net and catch it.. thats gonna be some time with it.. im gonna be scared..... :dive:

Ofarevolution31, just admit it, you dont care about the pacu and are too lazy to find a home for it and want to see it die and hey what more COOL way for it to die than to be eaten or brutally attacked. God 99% of people who own piranhas make me sick by experimenting with stupid crap like this. Even so, your tanks are way too small. If you cannot afford a proper tank for your pets, then choose different pets. For a 45 gallon, you should have picked up a bunch of Exodons if you wanted aggressive fish that like to bit and attack things.

i do care, his name is borris... but i have no way ot get rid of him or anything... my prianahs r doing jus fine in the 45g tank.. thats a perfect size for them... 20g a fish..... thats what it suppose to be... im not expirementing or trying anything.. im just doing it.. and it shouldnt make u sick bcuz i am a great fish keeper and have been for a long time. so sorry that u think that, i dont know what else to say about that. :help:

I dont know... 45 gallons is not a big tank at all and piranhas get big. Its almost like keeping two oscars in a tank that size. Most reds get to 10" or so right? I think a tank that size is good for maybe 3-4 whimple piranhas.. I may be harsh but I think fish need tank space. Also the pacu is as good as dead, plus how long will it be in the 45 gallon tank before it doesnt fit? I bet it will be 3 months and he'll outgrow that tank too. You're best somehow finding a taker for that pacu. Maybe someone on Aquariacentral if you post a free pacu.
Never mind. :troll:

Okay, just take the poor pacu to your LFS. You know the 45g, and even the 250g you had planned aren't big enough for a pacu. If you can't find a new home for it, euthanize it HUMANELY using clove oil or giving it a quick wack with a brick in the head. Throwing it in your 45g so that your piranhas can rip it apart tells me you don't care if he suffers or not, and tells me you're about to be cruel to a fish that didn't ask to be yours in the first place.

I second that. Grow up.
just in case you missed it. or forgot it....
If you can get the pacu out of its tank and into the 45. then you can get the pacu out of its tank and to an lfs. :idea2:
this is so obvious a solution it kinda makes it seem like the whole purpose of this thread was to see who you could get worked up.
not quite as exciting as watching the piranhas go for the pacu, maybe, but more humane....

alright. im not putting it with my piranahs... i am giving it to my uncle who has a tank. and he can decide what he wants to do with it... but im sure he will be happier in a 150g tank more then a 30g tank... for a certain amount of time... so im a good person, dont be mad..:)

yeah thanks.. its not the best idea, but better then keeping him or having him wit my reds... so his life should be better now.

09-24-2005, 6:49 PM
yeah, and giving it to your uncle is probably better than giving it to the LFS, youll probably get to see it sometimes then
yeah so you and borris can still "bond"

haha yeah. i will see it.. it wil be cool. bcuz next time i see it, borris will be like 12+ inches probaly.. so that will b neat to see... lol.. yay :)

There we go, thats a cool thing to do. 150 gallons will be very nice for him. Ultimately its still small but a 150 gallon tank is a very VERY big tank for a house and really, a Pacu is not a fish for home so it cant get better for him that that. The best thing would be an outdoor pond if its a warm climate then he will grow like 2-3 feet :) LOL.
The reason I was so upset at first when I thought you were going to put him with the reds is because I had one that I purchased by mistake. The guy told me that he wont grow more than 10" in a tank (I should have researched - he was the size of a quarter when I bought him). Less than 8 months later he was like 14" long. I ended up having to give him to my LFS because my 100 gallon tank was small for him. My Pacu was probably the friendliest and most personable fish I had so far. I swear it was like a puppy.

hahah yeah.. yeah it will be.well washington is to cold to have him in a pond?? but yeah but i totally agree, borris was so friendly, nice happy and peacful.... he is a great fish and pacus are a tight fish.... :)
