I started a 29 gallon aquarium a few days ago. I put in it 5 aquatic frogs, a few live plants, and a big piece of drift wood. Everything looked great.. until the next morning. When I woke up the water was very cloudy. As the day progressed everything started to develop this clear-mucus like film on it. That night I did about a 2/3 water change. It did not help. As the days have progressed the film has become over an inch thick in some areas. However, it has not covered the frogs, and they seem healthy and normal. I put all the necessary chemicals in when I started the tank. The only 2 things that I did wrong (as I have discovered through my research trying to solve this problem) is that I did not give the tank a few days to cycle and I did not boil my driftwood. I don't know if either of these things are factors. Two possible causes I have found are blue green algae/cyanobacteria or myxomycetes. However, with both of these.. only part of the symptoms seem to apply. I am wondering if anyone has experienced this before, can tell me what exactly it is, or knows a solution.
