well today I went with my girlfriend to the nail place cause she was gettin her nails done for homcoming and they had a 35 gallon tank with 6 goldfish and 2 plecostomus one was about 15 inches and the other was about 4 and the goldfish were anywhere from 3-5 inches and the water was tinded better yet i should say stained brown my first thought was "OoOo look fish!" then eww the water is nasty i wanted to clean the tank really bad and i really felt bad esp. for the pleco. he had no room to turn :( and there was fish poop hanging off the filter and the bio-wheel wasnt turning and i think it was a 20 gallon filter poor fish i dont understand why people see them as disposable pets it really annoys me

Funny that you mention it being a nail place. The place where my mom gets her nails done is just a bad. I'm not actually sure how big the tank is. I know it's bigger than mine and mine is 55g but they have a giant gouramie in the tank and he can barely turn around. He's not particularly attractive but at the same time he's huge and very personable. He's sharing the tank with two oscars and a couple of smaller gouramies. It's really sad because the tank is just way too small.

He, I went to a bar last night that had a umm, I'm guessing 90-125gal tank. Hard for me to believe it could be overstocked, but with about 30 8-10 goldfish and a pleco or two (hard to tell, I couldn't see the back of the tank through the green water) I almost went over the counter to smack the bar owner!!

there's a huge china buffet place near me (like, 300 items), and at the entryway they have two massive tanks, probably 6lx4wx5h each, and they only have about 4 10' cichlids in each. kudos to them. the tanks only have rocky bottoms though, they could defintely use more aquascaping.

Hi, I am new here, I took my wife to a nail place and they had 5 gold fish in something that looked like a gallon of water, it was like a self contained unit with all filtration built right in. It was some what clean but I doubt it was good for the fish.

I think it's because the nail salon people are almost always asian, and when americans think "asian people" we think yummy food, kanji tattoos, and assorted goldfish. they're just trying to fit our stereotype without actually knowing anything about keeping fish. they just think it's expected of them. maybe. most of the chinese food places near me have those glass partitions between tables and walkways, and all of them either have goldfish or cranes painted on them.

maybe its because the goldfish are cheaper than the food to feed em so its actualy cheaper to buy new fish OMG the price of things ae messed up you pay more for water than gas

Actually most nails places and asian resturants have gold fish for good luck. Its a cultural issue.

I was at my doctor's office and they had a 55 gl tank in there. It had 2 5in goldfish 1 pleco and about 6 smaller goldfish.I started looking at the tank and my first thought was they look really hungry. They kept coming to the top of the water and gasping. Then I looked closer and noticed there was no air pump or anything on the tank except an undergravel filter.I found myself looking for an air pump that had maybe come unplugged or something. And I had to keep myself from asking the receptionist where it was.It was horrible when I realized they had no air!

Yeah, I was in a small sotorefront chinese restaurant and they had a commeon plec, 5 goldfish in like a gaollon of water. Very small tank! They had never changed the water as the level had evaporated to about two thirds full. There was one dead gold fish in there and the plec was sucking on it. I mentioned the fish tank to the girl behind the counter and she said the plec killed the gold fish. I told her that the fish had already died before the plec got it b/c there were way too many fish in there. I also told her about water changes etc. I HAD to say something! It was really sick!
