Hi,

I use a bit of Doc Wellfish's Freshwater Aquarium Salt for my tank as recommended by my LFS.

First off, is this stuff recommended?

Second off, I've been using it for a few months now. I've always followed the directions on the back. The problem is during water changes I have to approximate the amounts, because I'm never sure how much water I'm adding exactly.

So, to confirm that I'm not over-using this stuff what salinity level should I be at? I have a tester from my saltwater tank...

Thanks in advance for any advice,

Bobby

salt isnt necesarry (or needed for that matter) in a freshwater tank unless treating a specific disease.

Yeah, and just as a bit of advice-->get yourself a bucket from a store that has the volume labaled on it, so you know how much you are removing. You can take out whatever percent you wish to remove (eg. 20%, 25%, etc.) and then mark where that water level is on your tank. From that point on, you can always just drain down to that mark and automatically know how much you are removing.
