but I thought I would ask....I have a fry tank set up and want to use a sponge filter..thats been sitting in my tank collecting bacteria while waiting for my eggs to hatch. The tube is to high (long)

Can I cut it with out affecting the sponge part?

The smallest spong I could find was for a 10-20 gallon but I am only using a 5 gal air pump ( I can adjust the air flow) on my 5 gal "grow some" tank

No problem at all. As long as air is moving down to the sponge and then bubbling up then it is carrying water with it. This will move water through the sponge. That's all that is required. I have a hydrosponge that has the uplift tube cut to about two inches with no ill effects.
