I purchased 4 peacock bass about 3 months ago and much to my suprise I now have approximately 32 children swimming around. I put the larger fish in a different tank and now have the fry in a 20 gal. any suggestions on raising them....this is my first time with these fish

General rules for optimal growth of of are:

Live baby brine shrimp until large enough to accept a variety of dry and frozen food (probably won't be too long with fish that size)

As many water changes as you can stand. As fish grow they produce growth hormones and other organic wastes that if allowed to build up will slow down or stunt the growth of the fry. I've heard of people with very heavily stocked "grow out" tanks doing up to 50% daily.

make sure you can get rid of the fry. I'm of the opinion that peacocks, pacus, and other large fish shouldn't be kept in stock at lfs since VERY few people can provide for them. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with them being available from breeders, or on a special order basis, I just don't like them sitting there looking cute for every hillbilly with a 55g mixed cichlid tank to buy on impulse. A LFS in my area had 3in peacocks for sale about four months ago, and they are already getting people bringing them back in becuase they outgrew thier tanks. Of course by the time they brought them back they were already showing signs of stunting that will never go away, and generally looked like crap. Sorry, bit of an off topic rant, but....
