I have an Eclipse 3 for my 37 gal & i retrofitted it w/a 65 watt smartlamp. But now i'm thinking about using the old lighting I took out & adding it to the Eclipse. I'm also gonna ditch the Eclipse filter & get an Eheim canister filter but still want to keep the Eclipse 'cause of the look.

Problem is i don't know how to add the lights. Could i fit the lights in the middle, or should i remove the filter part of the Eclipse?

I'm gonna need to get a glass cover as well, right?

Also, how exactly should I install the old lights? (fix them to what?)

Anybody w/similar experience or insight please help me out - Thankx!

I think I'd look into building a canopy with the space you need. Probably easier than a retrofit, since you'll need to deal with the space/heating issue in addition to just finding room. You will need to protect the tube from water--I know my system has a plastic sheath around the tube and into the end caps. I'd try for something similar.

I'm going to move this over to FW/DIY...Slip might have some great ideas.

I got rid of my eclipse about 18 months ago...but before I did, I added a 55W compact flourescent fixture in the area between the stock lighting and where the filter pad goes. The light bulb itself was clipped to the reflector with standard bulb clips. The two small bolts that attached the bulb clips to the reflector came through the clips, then the top of the relfector, and then through a piece of aluminum flashing that I had cut into a hook to hang onto the edge of the plastic filter pad holder.

I ran that set-up for about 9 months without any signficant problems (I would remove the light strip when doing maintenance).

Add a twin 13W a-h suply bright kit and mount it on the water trough area not the lid.I have three modified hoods ad I like the flexability of haveing 4 diff bulbsockets with twin power switches lots of lighting options:D
