how do i know when it is time to reseal an aquarium? i bought a tank that has been used for 10+ years(built in 94)made by all glass, but it has been empty the past few months..well anyways i filled it with water and let it sit for about 5-6 hours then decided to move it so i emptied it and started to worry about if it might need a reseal or not.i need to get some shims tomorrow to put under the stand to make sure it is level so it is empty but any opinions on whether or not a reseal is needed?

I have a 29g. that is about 24 yrs old and still going. I've never considered re-sealing for the sake of re-sealing. Sort of "If it ain't broke... don't fix it". How big of a tank is it? I suppose with a large tank it may be worth resealing. I'm sure others will comment with more experience.

If it does not leak and the sealent is not pealing off then do not attempt to reseal it.

YEah, you can have a 30 year old tank and you can be fine, if the sealant is still tight and not loose you should be fine.

Before the mid 70's most tanks were a silver stainless steel trim with a slate bottom. :D

it is a 35 hex..the bottom appears to have plenty of silicone but i was just wondering about the sides...the strips of silicone just looked a little thin..but it has been filled for about 8 hours now with no problems...it took about an hour to get it level...but i guess if it has held water for this long it should be fine...i just hope it holds up for six months..then im getting rid of both my tanks and just getting one big one.
