You are invited to join a NHL Hockey pool that I created at PoolCrazy!!

The name of the pool is Bullhead. The password for the pool is <private message me on this forum for password>. You need to register (for free) your name with PoolCrazy and then join the pool that I created using name and password stated above. "Private Message" me for details on how to join the site, I will reply with specific directions.

The entry fee is $20 Canadian… end-of-season payout will be split 60/30/10 between the First, Second and Third place poolies. Using this site costs me $15 for the season, so if I take in 10 poolies @ $20, that’s $200 prize pot… less the $15… so $185 in prizes (all figures Canadian $)… which would end up approx. $110 for First prize, $55 for Second prize, and $20 for Third prize.

ENTRY DEADLINE IS SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15, 2005 @ 11:59:59 PM

Is it the price that is scaring people off? After advertising on message forums, hockey newsgroups, and web pages, I have a whopping *4* (yes, four!) people in the pool, including myself.

What could I be doing wrong? :rant:

#1. The season started allready.
#2. Pay out at that price would be $20 for third? Breaking even isn't worth it IMO.
#3. Maybe nobody knows you here and all you have been doing is spamming or advertising?
#4. You could have easily setup one at yahoo sports for free and no maintainance...you don't have to do anything after its setup. Then just get everyone to pitch in for a prize...if they don't pitch in, then no prize. Wouldn't cost you time, money or effort really.

sublime1184: Yes, but even major pools (i.e. sports magazines) allow picks to be made up to Halloween in some cases... and as far as a host site, I use PoolCrazy because that is the site I hosted my 2003-04 pool on and I knew it was reliable... and I can't understand the point of having a bunch of free users competing against the paid users? I mean, yah I could have 10,000 users in the pool but then it's just for bragging rights? And finally... the situation I showed of third place breaking even was if 10 users entered...

1st place -> 60% of pot
2nd place -> 30% of pot
3rd place -> 10% of pot

So assuming there was 10 people in, that is $200 pot... the fee to run the pool is $15 so I deduct that from the pot... leaving $185 in the pot.

If 10 people entered, 1st prize would win $111, 2nd prize would win $55.50, and 3rd prize would win $18.50.

If 20 people entered, 1st prize would win $231, 2nd prize would win $115.50, and 3rd prize would win $38.50.

Allowing late picks is different from having the league ready ahead of time. All the pools I'm in that involve money, you can bet ur bottom dollar that most people want to get their's money worth. and I know that the money amount was an example...but if you have 10 people (which you have 3 + you) then payout for third is less than the buy in...and you still want so many more before the Oct 15th deadline? good luck.

If you have an all free leaugue or an all paying league, its one or the other so that people know. Just advice to plan a bit more for ur next league. As for using poolcrazy, if thats what you use, it don't matter to me. I just suggested yahoo in case PoolCrazy is pay only.

Pool Name: "Bullhead"
Pool Password: "winnipeg"

Hoping to get some last minute pool people... there's about 6 hours+ to go until the join deadline.

ANYONE?!

I did a hockey pool in 2003-04 but I planned it better... I threw this one together a bit too close to the start of the season. I can't fault people for not joining. Oh well, maybe next year I can have it together by August or so. I only ended up getting *5* people, which is less than the *13* I had in 2003-04. Only two people paid so far so I will refund them and cancel the pool. I'm out my $15 pool fee I paid to the host site but as Kurtis Blow once rapped about... "These are the breaks."

Thanks for the input, one and all.

OK... that's a wrap on this thread. See you in the forums.
