After a long trip away from the aquaria forums, I've been sucked into the paintball world more and more and more...

I've finally come back, and my tank is doing pretty well. I've scrapped my 20 long, which is in my attic, my 10 gal is empty, and my 2.5 is empty.

My 20 gal tank has only two Figure 8 puffers now and I need ideas... IDEAS I say!

Small things are nice. Thinking of having the 2.5 in my room personally, with a small goby and shrimp or something nice...

I need to redecorate, etc etc...

RULES:
-Fish must not be bettas
-Fish should probably "odd", since I'm "oddball"
-Fish cannot be extremely rare and/or expensive. No way I'm shelling out more than $15 per fish, too much cash from paintball :P.
-Fish should probably be "hardy", but they can be semi-delicate. Nothing that takes 24/7 attention and daily water changes.

Enjoy picking my fish!

You're either going to have to drop the oddball requirement or the $16 limit man. What about a vampire/filter shrimp for the 2.5. Pretty odd, but expensive too. A single Multifasciatus (smallest cichlid in the world) in the 2.5? Have you seen black paradise fish? I don't even like paradise fish and think they're kinda neet looking.

Well fish that are odd to me may be more common to you. I've always thought a 10 gallon Dwarf Puffer tank would be cool. The 2.5 gallon you could do those Least Killifish I've heard about on these forums. Wish I could be of more assistance but I'm stuck in the land of the common fish. So haven't done much research on ordering more rare stuff online =(.

Fine, dorp the $16 limit. Only reason is being that I paid $20 per puffer, and that set me back a LOONG time.

Anyways, IDEAS.

When you say odd, do you mean interesting or not that common? For instance, glass cats are interesting but very common and not at all expensive. Same with upside down catfish. They may not be uncommon but Hey! They swim upside down! :-)

Most of the true oddballs require at least a 50 gallon tank. Perhaps you could keep some interesting varieties of more common species. Axelrod rainbow, vaterfloris rasbora, gold algae eater, black wing hatchet and badis (chameleon fish) are all common fish that not everyone has.

Are you thinking of oddball fish for the 2 1/2.....the 20....or are you going to be starting up one of the tanks you have put away?

I right away thought of shelldwellers, but I dont' think 2 1/2 is big enough for those, though they don't need much space...a couple pairs or one male with 3 females in a 10 would work well I think.

For the 2 1/2 maybe some of those tiny endlers. A guppy type fish, but very small and very colorful.

A brackish tank with some gobies would be cool.

What about a viverium type setup or rivertank...part land part water and add some fish and newts.

Whatever you decide....have fun putting it together and show us some pics when it's set ! :D

You're joking, right? Though most of the oddballs are brackish, like my puffers and me used-to-be gobies, there are quite a lot of odd fish that can live in 20 gallons and under.

I'm trying to find a "least killifish" to stick in the 2.5.

For the 20 long, I may pick up a Butterfly fish (only $8 here!) or make the river tank as Emg suggested. OR I may turn the 20 long into a Brackish tank with primarily bottom dwellers.
