I just got two small pots of Dwarf Hairgrass. They came growing on some kind of spongy material (sorry for my ignorance, but I have no idea what this stuff is). Anyway, I cut around the roots to take most of that stuff off so I can bury it in my gravel. I have a layer of Flourite and then some gravel on top. Is there anything else I can do to make sure this plant grows okay? I would really like to see it thrive in my tank as I would like it to cover a lot of ground. Also, is that spongy stuff okay for it to stay on there? I couldn't get it all gone or else I would have destroyed all the roots. Will that affect my fish in any way?

Also, how fast does this plant grow? And about how long before it covers a third of a 46g bowfront?

Thanks!
Fernando

Fernando,

If you have enough light, the right dosing regimen, and Co2, your plants should start taking off within the week. For me, it took about 7 days to see new plants. But once it starts, watch out.

Take good care of it. Try not to shade it with other plants. I've noticed that this plant needs every bit of light it can get. It's a beautiful grassy plant. I love the way it looks.

Don't worry about the wool. It's used to protect the roots from damage during shipping. You should carefully remove as much as you can from the roots and then plant.
