Welcome to Aquaria Central! What that actually sounds like is Dropsy (they have a pine cone looking appearance) and it is a nasty disease. I had a few female bettas that got it several years ago and I couldn't treat it. I think there is newer info out there on the disease and how to treat it so maybe that will help. I am going to move this to freshwater as Swords are more of a freshwater fish and you will get more views there too! Hope this helps and welcome to AC!!!
