I have decided to take my brothers old 10 hex and he is unwilling to give me his filter? I am not sure why, but whatever. I need to know what is recommended for the 10 hex. I am in college so money is not easy to come by but I am willing to get a good filter. There was an underground filter but I am very against those. Any brand names and sizes would help a lot! Thanks!

I use a Penguin for my 30 gallon.
What I'd recommend for you is the Penguin 100B. It's good for up to 20 gallons, and the Bio-Wheels are actually pretty cool. Either that or one of the Aquaclears are what most people recommend here. Neither are very expensive, but the Penguin was recommended to me over the Aquaclear, but from what I hear it's more of a matter of preference.
