im lost about what o put in eel only tank as far as decor. do i nned live rock or any other kind rock?

I think I would have a sand base with some nice oblong pieces of live rock. I would really take your time to find good rock that you could easily make caves and caverns for him to slide through. Also remember as he gets bigger he will be much stronger and will probably move your rocks. I would find ways to attach them together and stablize them.

I placed my rock on top of base rock that is sitting directly on the glass bottom. this stops fish and critters from digging under and knocking it over.
Ive heard of using pvc tubing to do the same thing. just make sure he has room to play and you can watch him have fun too...

JMO, thats how I would do it...

well the basics - sand and stone can go a long way in a tank. A really good way to cover the tank is to get alot of rock. Because live rock can be quite expensive I got dead base rock aswell and added that too. This way i got heaps of stone and after tops 1 month it all looked the same. Don't get any fake coral and that coz it usually looks crap, especially if it is like pink and stuff.

this is pretty much what Oliver and LS said but...
just make sure their are a lot of hiding spots for him to hide in. lots of caves and tunnels. sandy substate (i really like black sand, and if you're getting a snowflake moray eel (which i assume you are based on your tank size) it would look really cool on black substrate. You could lean a large piece of slate against the glass and your eel might choose it as its main hiding spot, so you can view it 24/7. (OF course, this only works if you are willing to have an ugly piece of slate leaning against the front of your aquarium)
