I've noticed the past little while that at the top of one of my dwarf gouramis his head was turning a darker colour...

Tonight I went to the petstore to buy myself an algea eater because I have brown algae in my tank at the moment that I want to get rid of....

As I came home I noticed in the top back corner the one dwarf gouramis was still alive but looked as if it was floating so I pushed it with my finger and it took off swimming around the tank and I noticed one side of his eye looks alittle whitish...

As I let the bag where the algae eating is in float in the tank... I noticed the fish go back to this corner and nearly float upside down....so I tapped on the glass and he took off swimming again like normal....

Should I be worried?.. What should I do?

Doesn't sound good. Is this a new tank? (Brown algae seems to most often appear in newer tanks.) What are the measurements of your water chemistry? (Ammonia, nitrites and nitrates?) What size tank is this, and what are your maintenance practices (water changes, filter cleanings, etc.)?

I personally think the solution to the brown algae is a brush, and perhaps an examination of your water chemistry and aquatic husbandry rather than adding the additional bioload of another fish - especially since there are already signs of a problem.

Ahh... too late, he passed away.... :(

Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: below 5
Ammonia: 0

Umm... it's cycled... I've had the tank running for about...4-5months now...

I was looking back at your old posts - took a while! ;)

Were these Dwarf Gouramis in there during all the problems last month? Perhaps they were already stressed from all of that, and it just took a while to succumb. Do you still have any other fish in there?

Are you still adding salt? Are you adding anything else to the water except a dechlorinator? Your nitrogen compound numbers look good.

I'll leave the the rest of this for the folks with more expertise in fish disease.

Nope, I'm not adding anymore salt..

I have tuns of fish in there right now..... like over 20 anyways... and yeah he was in there while my tank was going threw all the problems... and I'm just thinking that possible he was just getting too weak...

Would it be ok if I bought and put in another one?

what size tank?

I am hoping someone with more disease experience would chime in, but I think you should wait a few weeks at least to make sure there's no problem with the aquarium before rushing in to add more fish.

I STILL think you need to be waiting to add fish. You were having alot of problems before and a week or so of calm is really not enough to let things settle!! It is hard to say if the gourami was stressed from before (probable) or just starting to show new problems (possible). Plus, by introducing new fish you won't be able to say for sure if the new fish are causing/bringing in problems or if it is your tank and there are some sort of illnesses lurking around in there.

Well... before I added any fish I noticed the top of the fishes body turning colour... like a darker blue... but I just thought that it could be because it's getting older... and I didn't really notice anything else wrong with him until yesterday....
