I had a pair of silvertips for about 8 months, then randomly one of them dies, now the one thats left, seems healthy, but depressed if thats possible for a fish...he swims around the tank like he used to w/ his partner, but now he stops every 5 minutes and just hovers in the corner for about 20-30 minutes, eats fine, my question is, should i get him another partner...i'm questioning in regards to 1. tank size, 30 gal, will eventually be a 90gal possibly bigger, and 2. the silvertips my LFS gets are usually only about 1 1/2 to 2" long, will he still make "friends" w/ the oldy thats already in my tank? Or is it not worth getting another one at this point? When i had the pair they always used to swim together, always. Let me know what you all think. Thanks

i just returned my silvertip the other day to the local lfs. they were far less than truthful about the requirements of the fish when i bought it. i don't know what came over me i never buy a fish without researching it 1st. just fell in love with it i guess. i don't know what to tell u, everything i have read about them states they really r a big schooling fish and do best in groups. which is 1 reason i took mine back, the other is that as they get older (and much bigger lol) they need way more salinity possibly up to full marine, which along with the extra current that is suggested to calm their migratory instinct just seemed like too much to deal with. i don't know how urs would react to a new tank mate. u could see if ur lfs would let u bring him back if it did not go well. i found a really good site on silver tips when i was doing my way too late research on them. if i can find it again i will send u the link or just post it here.
