I hope i'll be able to get this to work.

I relocated "Mr. Bettas" airstone to the left side of the tank - where the filter is (was behind the rock on the right - but he picked that as his favourite spot - i assume because of the big plants) and where he didnt really go much over the past 3-4 days. I know an air bubbler isnt necessarily needed for a betta - but i would still like to add a few other fish in a while and with the waterlevel the way it is the surface didnt move at all (water that comes out of filter runs into tank smoothly - the leaves move but the surface was basically still). I thought thats not too good now is it. (wrong ?)

Heres a little video i took.

I just wanted to see what you think - and if i can actually get others to see the file. Its about 4Mb so broadband might be needed. Oh and yes the video is a bit dark - i'll try another with daylight tomorrow.

I could view it (and with Netscape, too! as usually for stuff like that I have to break down and open Explorer). I have cable.

That was really great; didn't seem too awfully dark. Beautiful betta. Or, handsome, I don't know if male bettas get offended being called beautiful.

I like the way your tank looks, and that is the most active Betta I have ever seen. But most every Betta that I see is in a small tank and unheated. From what I have read about Bettas it is not so much surface movement it is current. My rule of thumb is as long as you have given your fish a good home and as long as it is happy and healthy then your tank is fine. I also read in another post that a little current is not bad for Bettas, But I am no expert of them and I always refer back to my rule of thumb ;)

Wow! Very impressive setup, ecspecially for a betta! I have some bettas and I try to keep them in at least two gallons, but I've got nothing on you! Your betta must be very happy!

Heres a pic of him. Its so hard to get a good one - either they are blurry or the colours arent right. He is actually a bit more red (as in the video) ...

Thats a really nice set up you have there, and your betta is pretty to, i have one that looks almost just like him. I love the way you have it decorated. Have a great day!!

I'm thinking that the current may be a bit much for him. Bettas have a hard time with current because thier fins act like sails. It looks like the reason he's so active in there is because he has to be to keep up with it.

Any way you can ease the current up a bit ? Is there an adjustment for the filter ? As far as the airstone, I have found that by cutting a square of plastic canvas and making a hole in the center just big enough to fit the airline through...I can slide the sqare down to just above the airstone, and that helps to interupt the current that all those bubbles create...just a bit.

Nice tank btw !

Thanks all for your comments - highly appreciated.

EMG: There really isnt that much current. Whatever there is comes from the filter in the back and is only in the 1/3 on the left of the tank. The mid and especially right section of the tank is very calm. Plus there is a big rock to go behind or in between.
You'd think he'd go where its calm when he gets tired (or tired of the current) right ?

When the filter is off the bubbles dont even move the leafs of the plants (and they are really thin). But without them there is no surface movement ... and i started to have a little white biofilm buildup so i thought i need to get something going to move the surface. The only other way would be to drop the waterlevel about 3/4 of an inch so that the water rushes on top instead of under the surface.

Silly indeed. I did a 30% water change earlier and he "discovered" the red dial on top of the heater and has been "fighting" with it on and off ever since.... one wonders what goes on in their heads....
