Hello, I've been trying to decide what to put in with my guppies in my 29 gallon and I know chilids aren't really an option other than german blue rams. I understand that they get to 3 inches and can live in a 29 gallon. Is this correct? I have also heard that they are compatable with small fish but get territorial when spawning. In conclusion would it be a good idea to get a pair of these to go in with guppies and corydoras, or would it be best to get one female/male or would it be best to avoid chilids altogether? Thanks everyone!:-) :bowing:

i think one male would be best. they look the best! way better than the females. i dont know if the rams would bother the guppies for sure but i will say that if the rams want to those guppies are DEAD! the guppies move about 1/4 speed of the rams and that makes them easily picked on. you might get away with 1 ram but not 2. even one is questionable is you like your guppies. rams are pretty peacefull. mine rarely give thier company in the tank a nip but they do give them a nip from time to time. the neon and the otto are very quick fish and flee quickly. this however is not an option for for the slow, but beautiful guppies. rams are by far my favorite fish of all that i have owned. if you like your guppies dont get em. but if your not that attached to the guppies put some rams in and see what happens. a 29 gal is perfect size for some rams!

Hi, I've got rams in my tank and the only guppies they bother are the babies. (food) lol they really dont seem to care that they are in there, let alone any of the other fish.

The guppies will soon learn to stay above mid tank, and the rams will probably not even mind them. I would go with one male and then multiple females if you want to see breeding behavior. Once the male pairs up with a female, the extras will have to be removed. Lots of structure on the bottom, so that the rams can stake out territories and aren't constantly running into each other.

PS There are lots of dwarf cichlids that you could keep in a 29g. Check out the thread on Non-diggers, there's a list.
