I have a aqua clea 200 and eclipse filters. I now use a knee hugh stocking and fill will carbon for the aqua clear. For the eclipse I cut
the fiber off the grid rinse with cold water refill with carbon and place some filter fiber on top. You can buy a large bag of this and
it will save you money from buying replacement filters

Anything to save money I am interested!!!!!!!!!!!!dona

Buy garden rock from hardware stores intead of expensive substrate in the LFS. That save alot of money. A 25lbs. bag at the hardware store is $3, but 25lbs. in a LFS is like $20. Just clean the gravel extrodinarily well.

I just bought a big box of someosrt of sponge material from the fish store for a few bucks and I cut it into various shapes for a AC Mini, Whisper 5-15, and an internal box filter. I never run carbon unless I need to remove meds. I have a tiny box ready just in case I need it.

So no to Carbon!! Save Money!!!

Clean water shouldn't smell bad. If the aquarium has an unpleasant odor, it means something is wrong!

My money saving tip would be join a local aquarium club. Since joining mine i have gotten most of my fish through trade or for free. Also club auctions are a great place to get cheap fish, foods, and products.
