cromides need brackiss kribensis can tolorate slight brackish. If your questin involnes african salts, its not the same thing, but I am not the one exlain the diference. I know they central american, at least there parents are, but a friend of mines blood parrot tank was broken and he picked the parots off the floor and placed them in his brackish tank and they are doing quit well

Depends which type of african cichlid you are thinking of. If its the rift lake species then no. Some riverine cichlids can live temporarily in brackish environments, but it is not proven that they can be succsessful long term in brackish water. Kribensis, like fish_breeder_05 said, is one example.

I've also heard of a new world type that reportedly breeds in fresh then swims almost to the ocean, and lives in brackish tributaries(almost like a salmon or striper). However, this was one article on a rare, non-documented fish. I have not been able to find any information to coraborate this, so at this point that is either a theory, or a myth. The likelyhood of you finding one for sale, if the do exist, is negligable. I know it doesn't help your question much, but I thought it waws interesting so I shared, if I find the article again I'll post it.

There is some disagreement on Kribs but I don't think it's in their long term interest to be kept in brackish. There are Asian Cichlids ( Orange Chromide and Green Chromide) that are brackish.
