Well, for loaches and plecos, I'd suggest small, smooth gravel with a dark, natural color because of they way they could dig. I really like the natural color and I think it is really hard to go wrong with that choice.

true that the color is hard to go wrong with, but after awhile it seeming blah to me.

what size of sand grains are suitable?

are there any dissadvantages of sand except for gravel vacing it?

I prefer the light natural gravel because it looks natural lol. I don't want anything to take away from the natural beauty of the fish. When I start to think that its looking blah, i either rearrange my docorations or a new plant. Your choices for plants, decorations, and fish are not limited whenyou go for a natural color. I will say this though, I only own the black trimmed, black stands because I do not care much for the would color ones. Using natural gravel with a light colored stand may not look that well because there is not enough contrast between the gravel and the stand, I can't say this for sure because I have never really saw a tank like this. Whatever you choose just so long as you are happy with it, after all you are the one that will be looking at it!! Have a great day!
