i have some florida crushed coral for a large previous saltwater set up that was not working out, is it safe to use it as a substrate for freshwater fish even though i would throughly rinse it off?

I don't know if its the same thing but I use the crushed puka shells to keep my PH up in my Cichlid tanks.... It works great.. THey like a little salt though.... My LFS has crushed coral in their freshwater display tank... The good thing is that most of the diseases that could affect your freshwater fish don't exist in salt water.... So I would think as long as you gave it a good wash you should be OK....

Unless you are keeping fish that like softer acidic water... Then you may have to make some adjustments... The crushed puka shells kept my tank right around 7.4 or so....
