Hey i am working on my new 38 gallon tank and i am trying to pre pick the fish I want but I don’t know how many fish I can even have in a 38 gallon tank. If someone could give me a rule like 3 inch of fish a gallon or whatever something like that it would be great.
P.S. i am still in the planning stage and I am a very big newbie so i am probably going to have allot more questions. So keep an eye out for my name

ive always heard 1" of fish per gallon, of course ive raised malawi cichlids for years..and this worked great for them , though i am also new to marine aquariums so maybe its diffrent for them......just my 2 cents

those "inch per gallon" rules are myths. It really depends on the type of fish

Yup there is no such thing a "inch of fish per gallon rule" because it depends on what type of fish you get.

^^ about inch/gallon ^^
Some ideas though: You don't want to get anything thats a large active swimmer like a tang, some wrasse, anthinas, etc....
You could get some small schooling fish, bangi cardnals, blue/green chromis.
You could also get some fish that don't swim around too much like clowns...
It all depends on what you want to do with your tank.
You could get an angler, or some agressive fish, or reef fish, its up to you :)
