Lake Tahoe, California
Hi all, I aqquired some stuff today and not sure if any or all of it can go into the tank. The tank will be a new set up

1. Driftwood from lake Tahoe

2. Dead Coral (freshwater tank)

3. Abalone Shell

4. My personal favorite though it probably is unsuitable, its a little metal lamp, here is the picture

Well #4 is definatley out.

#2 and #3 are possibilies but keep in mind they will harden your water and possibly raise the PH....if your keeping African Cichlids that is a good thing in most cases...however if your keeping South American fish its probobly not a good idea.

#1 on the other hand is probobly the safest bet and will soften your water a bit.

So depends on your current tap water parmas and the type of fish your keeping. Id say your safe with #1 either way though...just make sure to give eveything a good rinse.

I would be wary of the drift wood dependong on what it came from. Most likely it's ponderosa, which is a soft pine that would eventually break down. Other high possibilty is mansanita, which is harder and might work, but I've never seen it used in aquaria. some research on it would be wise before putting it in the tank. Where did you get the wood? I love tahoe, can't wait to drive up for a slide on the slopes!!
