I have gone to many Betta sites, but it always takes me forever to find the info I'm looking for! Although I learn more in the process. :) I've learned MUCH more on this site!

I've had my Betta about 18 months now and have read of them living up to 4 years. But -- about how old was he when I got him?? I bought him at the LFS. Last week, I got another one from the same store and he's considerably smaller, although his bottom fins are just as long -- the tail fin is very short.

(He also must not be used to the food I am giving him -- his gills flare up and he 'attacks' the food and then spits it out. I hope he's okay...!)

Bettas are usually about 8-12 months when purchased...An average life expectancy is about 2.5 years...Some can live to 4, but it isn't common
