Just wanted to report I bought one of those repti-zoo or repti-med (can't remember the brand) under tank heaters for a 2 gallon Betta bowl. Makes a huge difference in the activity level of my betta. He loves the warmer water, I see he sleeps on the bottom and in the center, directly in the heat. I also have a few silk plants in the bowl. I bought the mini heater, it seems to be the right size--it's for a 5 gallon tank. It says to stick it on but I just rested it on the table underneath it. It doesn't get too warm and then I can still change water easily.

I currently have a 2.5 Hexagon shaped tank for my Betta w/ a heater as well. I previously had a heated 5 gallon with a Betta who lived very actively for a couple years. Yes, they seem to like the warmer water very much I have found. Makes them much more enjoyable to watch!

Good to hear. My betta also seems so much happier with a stable warm temp. Less prone to disease as well.

I have another betta in a 5.5 gallon with a filter and heater, as well as a couple of white clouds and ghost shrimp plus lots of plants with just a regular lamp for light. Tremendous activity level for the betta (Oscar) and from what I can see a peaceful community. Got the idea for a small heater from this site for the other betta (It's from my husband's school and I don't know his name--it's a rescue fish), wasn't sure how to heat a "goldfish bowl" but it seems to work just fine. I change all the water at least once a week and so far no problems, at least none that I've inflicted on it (came with some fin issues that are not healing despite treatment but the fish is hanging in there). Would love to have the second betta in a larger tank with filtration but just don't have the space right now.
