Okay. I started the fishless cycle.. Added ammonia, it finally read zero and the nitrites and nitrates showed up.. So I added half of what I originally added for ammonia. It's at zero again, and the nitrites are reaaaaaaaallly high.. And the nitrates are like 40ppm.

Do I keep waiting and testing.. To see a change in the nitrites.. Or should I do a 50% water change, then see? Or would that mess it all up?

Please help.

Also, we've recently had a cold front in Florida.. And well, my mom likes to open the windows and let us freeze to death. I don't have a heater for my tank, and I've noticed that the temperature has been rapidly dropping just today. It used to be 78-82.. It's now 72. I should buy a heater, yeah?

A water change won't mess up your cycle but since this is a fishless cycle you don't need to do a water change. The part where nitirites start dropping is perhaps the longest part of the cycle, just keep doing what you're doing and the nitrites will eventually die down.

Its a good idea to have a heater handy even if you can maintain a relatively stable room temperature, you never know what mother nature will throw at you. You definately want to keep the temperature above 75 for tropical fishes.

It's a 10 gal.. And I know it'd frowned upon, but I'm gonna' get at least one angelfish and a swordtail or two.. I don't want many fish.. Just 5 or so.. But since I know angels get pretty big, three-four will suit me. My aunt has a 10 gal with two angels, so either one or two.. for me.

And thanks for the help. I'll buy a heater asap.

Lol. I was born in New Hampshire, but got used to Florida weather. I wouldn't mind it, but still.. It's Florida.
