Greetings, I'm a noob to the forum, as shown by the count of my posts. I've had somewhat of a bad day, tankwise. I managed to cook my heater and had a jumper while doing a water change and gravel sucking.

Being focused on all the poo in the stones, I forgot to turn off the heater and came back to smell the magic smoke as it escaped the heater.

After putting the fish back in, I was short one gourami. I looked all over the tank, in the little cave and no blue. Looked to one side of the desk and there he was, stiff as a board. A pity, he was a good lookin' fish.

Soo... who makes a good heater? I had a Marineland 100 W job that came with the tank and I'd like something with more adjustment than just hi or low.

I've had good luck with Visatherms.
I've also heard that Jagers are good.

A lot of people say Ebo-Jagers are good - but unfortunalety the ones sold nowadays are not the ones they used to be because another company produces them.
I am using a Visitherm stealth. Its right on the temperature, in black plastic housing (shatterproof) and switches off automatically when not covered with water. Now i cant say how the longterm reliability is because i didnt have it that long yet.

Jagers are okay, even the new ones in my experience. Rena also makes a good heater, but i prefer my Jagers.

Yeah, the new Ebos are not nearly as good as the old green ones...They work, but the one I have can drop a whole 2 degrees before it kicks on...The old green one, deadly accurate...

Well, when I go to the LFS this afternoon after work, I'll see if I can score a Visitherm. They sound like good product.

Now I just need to figure out where to put the thing. The back of the tank is getting crowded what with the hob intake, reverse flow powerhead and the other downtube where the other reverse powerhead will go, once parts arrive.

i have a Marineland Visatherm. works perfect. the temp it reads is exactly what my thermometer reads.
