Hi. First time poster looking for advice. I have moderate experiece. Looking to get a new tank, but I don't have much space in the apartment. My 6 gallon eclipse broke, so I picked up a 12 gallon nano-cube as an upgrade. Haven't touched it yet, though. Then I see this beautiful debauwi catfish, and I think I need to have my new tank filled with a shoal of them. But is this 12 gallon big enough? Dimensions are 16 x 14. I was wondering if I should return it to get a standard 20 gallon that is 24 x 12 and put together my own components.

Anyone have an opinion or experience with nano-cubes or debauwi catfish?

Thanks,
Ed

I wouldn't put debauwi's in anything less than a 30--they can get to be a bit over 4 inches, so a school of them would be pretty packed in a smaller setup. in smalle4r groups they tend to be skittish and shy, so a big enough tank to support a good group is necessary.

Also--apparently the dabauwi's are pretty rare, while a look alike, E. buffei are more commonly available and labeled dubauwi. Similar fish, just a few morphological differences.
