Does anyone know how to convert test readings from ( for example, 0.3 mg/l to ppm's ) ?

For most applications (liquid in liquid) its identical and unless you are doing something highly scientific you can assume 1ppm = 1mg/l

So then 20ppm's would be 2.0mg/l ?

Nope. 20ppm = 20mg/L

The reason i ask is my test kit gives results in mg/l my nitrite test reads 1.6 mg/l so that would be 1.6 ppms is that a bad thing?
The last couple of days my nitrite has been spiking and i do a 50% water change to get it down to <0.3 mg/l , I cant figure out why it has decided to keep spiking when the tank was already cycled.
PH 8.0
Amonia 0 mg/l NH3/NH4
Gh 5*
Kh 14*
Your tank is not fully cycled. There should be no detectable nitrite. Nitrite blocks the ability of blood to carry oxygen.
