Puffernewbee
10-27-2005, 12:52 AM
When I found this website I had just purchased my first fish which was a Figure-8 puffer. Since I was a newbie to fish keeping Puffernewbee seemed to work at the time. Had no idea how to spell (newbie??newbey??newbee??)
so I went with the "newbee" version. Actually I am pretty sure the spelling I chose was wrong but I cannot find a way to change it so I live with it.
mine is just a short version of my name .. real name is Marion .. so Marn is just short for it .. have used that name for over 6 yrs now .. only for the net .. have had a few other names but this one has stuck ..
Marn

i live in watauga county and i like chickens.
i actually made the name while i was in college and living in the dorms, my roommate and i both had our computers in our room and i decided to come up with a new screenname so i could mess around with her. of course, as soon as i sent the first message i started giggling. i'm no good at subterfuge.

The Border Reivers (http://www.sorbie.net/border_reivers.htm)
Oh boy...haven't answered this question in a long time.
My first name was 'Big Mama Guppy' when I first joined. But then someone posted a hobbit name generator. Mine came up Lila Boffins. I really liked the name Lila so I adopted it. I'd like to change the Boffins though to my psuedonym surname, but I'm afraid I'd lose all of my account info like I did in the past.
So there you go.
;)

kveeti
10-27-2005, 9:43 AM
means "flowers" (plural) in Ukrainian (e.g. singular would be kveetka). Not how it's spelled in cyrillic, but phonetically in English. I chose it because when I was setting up my service provider account, all my English choices were already taken. After trying time and time again, I switched to Ukrainian words, even some of those were taken. I love gardening, hence the flowers.

10-27-2005, 10:01 AM
When I first started registering for stuff online I tried to use Tom, my name as a username. Denied. It offered me Tom128344 or some other such nonsense so I figured I'd go for an easy number to remember like 10. I had to add the extra m to get the 10.
I use that username now for a lot of online stuff that I don't care about much. Part of me wishes I could change it now here but then I'd have to come up with something else.

10-27-2005, 12:31 PM
I was in a forum years ago that started having "impersonators" logging in with other peoples names, so then they made you chose a name and keep it.
Many people were taking Anon, Anon1, Anongirl, AnonDad, and so I decided that my online "persona" would be anonomous and gender neurtal, since sometimes that is an issue.
I came up with Anonapersona. And I liked the rhyme in it. And my first name is Ann. So it is a triple play.

  For some reason I found that really funny :duh: !!
I always thought people came up with the "onion" part b/c of that thing where people tend to read over words and skip the vowels or whatever...When I look at it, the i kind of becomes part of the r~~ri, looks like an n...

Seeing as I can't think of anything overly interesting I may as well tell the truth.
Dougall is short for McDougall's, the name of my favorite fish + chip shop back home (I believe it's gone now) at the time when I was first discovering the internet back in the early 90s..
I used it for some reason when I needed a nickname in a hurry (Was probably eating chips at the time..) and it kind of stuck..

SnakeIce
10-27-2005, 7:00 PM
I got this name when my uncle was pushing me to join the local drug gang. Both I and the indiviuals in the gang were coerced participants so when they were prepareing to tag some buildings in my "name" I took the suggested snake eyes and turned it into a challenge directed at my uncle. Ice to reference the snow storm that "followed" him from the new england states that slowed his activities. Snake to be a viper. Specificly one with his name on it, the Russel's Viper, to imply I was deadly to his game and interests.
I gained the upper hand against my Goliath and I have hung on to the intent created by SnakeIce. This moniker kept me out of crime, But with it I helped that gang get my psycho killer uncle out of their affairs.
Incedently, a part of the scientific name of that snake became my street name around those parts. Daboia.

At the suggestion of another friend came Dangerdoll and it's been that way ever since. When I frist got into aquaria, I decided to get an oscar. He is so ...cool. He didn't have a name for a while, but when I read Be Cool, I just knew. This fish was Chili Palmer. And the second Oscar I got I was gonna name Linda Moon, but I never liked the name Linda, so I went with the latin moon, Luna! Chili and Luna are tryin to make babies right now actually...Elmore has inspired me whenever I've gotten a fish, snail, crayfish or crab. Need to bump this so I thought I would add myself -- (should be a sticky, imho)
Back when I got my first 300 baud modem -- 1987? -- yah, I started posting on BBSes. My handle at the time was Killer Kitty. I then found ***Net (not gonna go there, but it was for adults only :D) and I started using the name Happy Spatula for a while.
That stuck for a year and then I started playing MUDs (Multi-Player Dungeons) and my first character's name was Spat, which suits me :) My second character was Roan, cause I showed/trained/rode horses for 25 years, like the color roan and have long red hair.
I've been Roan on BBSs, the Internet and the web since 1989. I'm also an artist (on hiatus until next year when my youngest is in school) and my business's name is Roan Art

Clurin
11-22-2005, 4:23 PM
I've been a table top rpg player (think Dungeons and Dragons) for years. When I was 12, my friend introduced my to a BBS, so I needed a handle. I had a random name generator that I made for playing d&d and decided to use it for my handle. Out popped Clurin.
I've used it ever since (unless that rat ******* named Christopher Lurin has already taken it... ). Once I moved into the IRC world, the name took on a character of its own. It was determined (through much humiliation and hilarity) that I was a cross between a Mink and an Elf. Hence, "melf" in my user type box. :)

Nice bike. I raced a 2002 and 2004 YZ250, but then I graduated to an XR-650L and wrecked it...
The name? I was the youngest guy on the beach patrol for 2 years and got the nickname of the kid from Baywatch. Then it stuck. 237 comes from the fact that I'm the 237th in-vitro child born in the world.

Yeah, the number thing is true. I have a brick in a courtyard outside of a research hospital in Norfolk, Va to prove it... lol. The 650 is an awesome bike, but right now I need a new front wheel, brake, forks, handlebars. Basically evertying that pivots in the front is destroyed. How? Went into a turn offroad at ~50, which was too fast, so I gave it a little brake, hit some frozen ground, which pointed me into a ditch. The front went into the ditch, I went over the handlebars.

patoloco
11-24-2005, 12:46 PM
Patoloco can be translated into English as "crazy duck".
I started with all this back in the late 90's when there was this cartoon named "Darkwing Duck". I started an account in Yahoo! and one of my alter egos was DDuck457.
However, I also used apanish names all related with PATO, just like patito de goma (literaly, rubber duck but also means hangover duck), and the worst nickname ever patito derretido (melted little duck). I never forgave myself for using that nick.
As time passed, I started using Patoloco and it stuck with me. Many people call me Pato, and most of them ignore my real name. I got so pato'ed, that my house is filled with duck figures, in the kitchen, bathroom and some other places.
DreamingAloud
11-25-2005, 2:01 PM
Mine's from a song - "Walking After You", by the Foo Fighters. The line is "Tonight I'm tangled in my blanket of clouds, dreaming aloud". I liked the imagery and the Foos were a favourite of mine (before they kinda sold out and went, well, downhill). Sometimes I need to add 212 to the end (it's track 12 on their 2nd album) 'cos apparently I'm not the only person that likes it.
I'm new, too. Hi everyone!

Riso-chan
11-27-2005, 6:11 PM
Mine is comprised of the last part of my last name, and 'chan' which is a Japanese tack on when talking or referring to a friend or someone you are close to. "De Riso - De = Riso + Chan = Riso-Chan"
There, that explains it.

Dan
*sigh* sorry about that, Dan..... thanks for not making it so obvious that I'm a nickname thief....
Thought this would be a fun thread to unearth!! Um, lets see, my username, Bitsy, has been my nickname since I was a little kid. My mom's maiden name is Soule and there is that song, Little Bit of Soul, well all of her friends started saying I was a little bit of Soule, then it went to Bits, and eventually progressed into Bitsy. All of my family and most of my close friends still call me Bitsy, it wasn't until junior high that I started going by Elizabeth, my given name. :) We had moved (AGAIN) and it was just easier at a new school to not have to explain my nickname since it's not really a logical nickname for Elizabeth. So there we go, that's my explanation! Lets hear everyone else's who hasn't already explained!! :)

Coupe de fleur is the model name that Superior Coach used for their flower cars.
That's my '66 in my avatar photo. Flower cars are super-rare- Superior built 30 in 1966, and only 5 of them survive. I use the name on a couple pro-car boards, and I don't like dreaming up a new user name for every board I join!

TSpent 20 years in the Air Force, Avionics Tech on the F-111 "Aardvark".
"Back in the day" the F-111 was one of my favorite aircraft. I still find funny the comment by Vice Admiral Thomas "Tom Cat" Connolly as to whether a more powerful engine would cure the aircraft's woes, "Senator, all the thrust in Christendom will not make a [carrier] fighter out of this aircraft."
