Got this from my LFS and it was labled as a Texas. It looks a lot darker than the texas cichlids i see on the net. Is it a hybrid maybe? Also if somes can sex it for me that would help too but hes only about 3-3.5 inches.

It appears to be a full Texas. Most fish can change their background colors depending on mood, stress, surroundings, etc. If you put that fish into a tank with a white very light colored background, it may very well turn to a pale grey color instead of the near black.

That is a nice looking Tx Cichlid!
Upon looking at that picture a bit longer........ His dorsel fin starts a bit far back. The shape of his boddy seems a bit off as well. You can compare him to my picture on the left. He is about 6in in that photo.
I'm going to have to try some darker gracel in one of my tanks.
Thanks for the comments NatakuTseng

thanks for the replies. i think the shape looks off because of the angle i took the picture at. maybe i'll try to take a better one.

Look up Carpintis Escondido... It is indeed a texas but of another variety... Look up over on cichlidmadness.com and look for MOJO... He has some great pics of his Carpintis Escondidio... They are the best looking out of all of the Texas variants in my opinion......

For a great picture of his Escondido, look in Mojo's thread here titled "Today in the Fishroom 10/26/05 Variety" (part 1).
