We are starting up a cichlid tank. This is a 60gal tank in our bedroom. We started with a Whisper filter system and then changed it to a Fin filter system. I am looking for peoples opionions on what they think is the quietest filter system available. The Fin seems to be quiter than the Whisper but is still loud enough to keep me awake at night. Looking for feedback. Thanks

If you want something quieter than the whisper, then you will probably need to go with a canister filter. Take a look at the many discussions on canisters to help you decide which one will be best for you. I like the Rena XP2 myself.

I recently switched from a HOB to a canister, and the canister is completely quiet.

I have 4 fish tanks in my bedroom. :D

On my 5 gallon reef: HOB AquaClear Mini
On my 30 gallon planted: HOB AquaClear 200
On my 33 gallon FOLR: Eheim 'classic' canister filter
On my 90 gallon African Cichlid:Rena Filstar XP3

The eheim IMO is the quietest out there. The filstar is pretty good, but whines sometimes. Eheim all the way! :D Its worth the extra $$$

Quietest filter: Canister

As for which one, personally, the Eheims are good ones, as are imo Cascades for the price. I run all kinds, and all do their job, but it depends on your budget and your size. I second Eheims are wonderful.
