You have way too many now as it is. As adults I would reccomend nothing smaller than a 55gal for what you have NOW. Always buy fish based on their adult sizes, not the size you buy them.
I know I can't keep them in there as adult size that why I was wondering how much longer do I have till they start growing or they grow as large as the tank space given? I had them for about 2& a half months and they get along very well FOR NOW I have good filtration 2 filters and I do a 20% water change weekly and have not lost any fish SO FAR so just wondering how much longer I got? Thank

I have a 30gal with some similar cichlids and i will be upgrading to a 75gal for them in about 2 months. When i do the upgrade i may add a few more fish also. I would say if you can upgrade to a 55 or bigger in the next 3 months, that would be OK

Start looking for at the very least a 55 gallon right now.... 75 would be the best. You will also run into aggression problems even in a larger tank, so you may want to consider getting rid of the more aggressive mbuna such as the auratus and kenyi.

But your first job is to get a much bigger tank. You wont be able to keep them in the 30 gallon for much longer before you start stunting them (especially the larger hap) or they start killing each other off.

Setup the new tank within a month for sure...

Thank for the good info everybody.

Yeah I was planing on geting a bigger tank in a couple of months. My Cobalt Blue runs the tank right now & the Red Top Zebra is second in command. So you can't put a Auratus & a kenyi together,Why could'nt it work in a larger tank? I'm thinking about going with a 75gal.What's the next size under a 75g & what the next size over a 75? THANK.

Not to hijack the thread, but ive got a 29 that will be freed up soon, plan on giving whats in there now to my little brother. How many of the smaller (tell which are smaller?) Malawais would live in it? a few at most? I like Damonais (sp?) and bumble bees, and electric yellows. Thoughts from the crowd?

You could put auratus and kenyi together, but you shouldnt mix them with less aggressive mbuna such as yellow labs.

Actually, with that mix of fish, you'd be going for a more aggressive setup, and should remove the yellow lab.

You want to keep fish together that share similar aggression.

I know you can get a 65gal, but its not as long as a 55 or 75, the 65 is taller whichont benefit your fish as much. With the 55 and 75, the fish will have 4 feet of length to use, i think the 65 is only 3 feet long. above a 75 would be a 90. I think there are bowfront tanks in a 72gal and 80gal, but they are more expensive.
