I recently purchased 3 bolivian rams, they all look alike, but I have been told that they can be distinguished according to their caudal and dorsal fins. Can anyone out there confirm this, and describe how exactely how I can sex them.
With many of the SA cichlids the male's dorsal and anal fins are pointed or even form a "thread" that extends from the back rays of the fin. Of course these may have been nipped and not clearly visible. The rear of the females fins are generally more rounded. Watch their behavior, the most dominant one is likely the male. The submissive one could be male or female. Of course there are exceptions to any rule.
